Join us for this webinar developed and hosted by our Nurseries Special Interest Group that will discuss emerging research, technologies and methodologies to improve the quantity and quality of native trees available for planting. This event will showcase new projects focusing on seed quality and germination, propagation and production practice made possible by the Forestry Commission's Tree Production Innovation Fund (TPIF). This event will be chaired by Lea Brandes, Operations Manager at Forestry England and Chair of the Nurseries Special Interest Group.
During the webinar we will hear about:
Trait-based approaches to seed screening and germination
This session will bring together collaborative research from Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Elsoms Seeds for the TPIF-funded Seed Traits for Tree Production project at the Millennium Seed Bank, with focuses on seed traits and dormancy in relation to climate change, as well as high throughput methods of trait-based sorting for seed germination improvement.
Innovations in Tree Seed Science
Hear about cutting-edge research in tree seed science, including plasma seed treatments by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, advanced 3D X-ray phenotyping techniques from PhenoLytics, and seed priming as a tool for enhancing germination and stress tolerance by the University of Lancaster.
Propagation for Tree Production
Discover advancements in tree propagation, featuring research by the Future Trees Trust on supersizing broadleaf species.
