Join our Midlands Member Network for this event at Shenton Estate in Leicestershire on 7 October 2025.
Shenton Estate is an arable estate with over 30 hectares of woodland. The estate is going through the process of applying for an England Woodland Creation Offer grant which will increase the woodland holding on the estate by 50%. They face the challenge of creating a woodland in a historic landscape, so the balance of creating productive lowland forestry, which is beneficial to wildlife while being sensitive to the importance of the Battle of Bosworth, is key to increasing the woodland cover on the estate.
The event will discuss the intricacies of the design/application process and hear from local historians to share why this landscape is so important to protect. The estate has also got an amazing wetland habitat adjacent to some of the existing woodland, so time-permitting, we will explore this and how woodland management is supporting biodiversity improvements in the local environment.
